What this Website is all about The aims of Fairbridgekids.com
To collect and disseminate information pertaining to the time we spent at Fairbridge so that memories are not lost. You can walk down memory lane through reading our stories, looking at our pictures and memorabilia. That's what it's all about.
Acknowledgements We acknowledge and are indebted to those who have contributed material for this site. We wish to thank the Mir Family for permitting us to copy and publish some their photos. We are honoured to have been able to loan, copy and publish photographs belonging to Lois Elliott. Jan Churchill has been totally magnificent in providing the Fairbridge Time Line, allowing us to loan, copy and publish her priceless press cuttings collection, and identifying people, places and dates for many of the photos on this web-site. Gladys Mares provided a gold mine of old photos and made sure the girls were well represented here. A fabulous contribution - we are truly indebted to Gladys. Thank you so much! Thanks to John Sumner for his family Fairsky pictures of 1963 and also the memorabilia including his Fairbridge report! Marcelle O'Brien lent us her fabulous photo album. Thanks Marcelle. They include many old photos and some taken more recently. Mike Barnett and George Braithwaite are working through the old photos to try and put some names and times to them. Thanks Mike & George. Thanks to John Sumner, John Barns, Bob Mitchell and Barry Stuart for their stories. The Old Fairbridgians Association (W.A.) have kindly allowed us to publish their Committee structure plus copies of recent reports. The Old Fairbridgians Association (W.A.) Museum have generously made available some of their historic documents including reports, maps, children's School Magazine etc, plus a selection of editions of The Fairbridgian. Extreme gratitude to Mr John Smith, Chairman the Board of Fairbridge W.A for permitting us to publish his photos of the Old Fairbridge Farm and sharing information he has of the Old Farm. Thanks to Mark Anderson, Fairbridge CEO, and his staff (Julie, Annette & Iggy) for their hospitality down on the Farm and permitting us to go inside and photograph unoccupied buildings! Ken Ducker dug out some old 1963 photos and sent them in. Many thanks, Ken. Copyright All images and narratives on this website remain the property of the webmaster or where applicable the respective authors of literary works or photograph/image owners. You may copy items from this website for personal use only. Any intended reproduction for commercial purposes must first have the express permission of the owner. Objections We respect your privacy. If anyone objects to the publication of any photographs then please let us know - we have no wish to offend. However, please bear in mind that we are all part of this same history and the sum of each of us makes the whole. The same applies to any of the text on this site. This site is about history and sharing that history. Current Contact Addresses No email addresses (in fact no contact details) will be published without the express permission of the person. Helping each other is important. If you are looking to contact an old Fairbridgian friend or family member and it leads to a happy outcome then one of our objectives has been fulfilled. Please email us and we can insert details of your quest on the Notice board. Photos To maintain some consistency, we try and publish landscape photos at 640 (wide) x 480 (height) pixels, and portrait photos at 480 pixels (wide) and 640 pixels (height). That's just so they look nice. If you scan photos try and make them bigger than the above - scan at (say) 200dpi at 100%. Black and white photos should be scanned selecting the "greyscale" option (oddly enough, don't select "black and white"). We will use software to sharpen the pictures and adjust the contrast so you don't have to worry about doing that! Downloading Photos That's Ok but please don't re-publish any or use any for commercial purposes without consulting us - you will need the owner's permission. If you download for personal use, because most photos have been substantially enhanced for PC viewing, they may not look so good when you print them. You can get copies of many old photos from the OFA Museum which look great in print. Please see the OFA section of this website for contact details. Feedback Collecting information and doing all the technical stuff to publish it is time consuming and hard work. If you'd like to make a comment one way or another about our content, style (or lack thereof) or whatever, then please email us. All comments and suggestions are very welcome. Sometimes sitting here doing this is like an all night DJ in the bush who wonders if anyone at all is tuned in and listening :) Once again, we encourage people to contribute. Representation Whilst being a close friend of Fairbridge W.A. and other associated bodies, this website does not in any specific or implied way represent them. The Old Fairbridgians' Association of W.A., in early 2007, adopted this website as their Internet "voice" however anything published here does not necessarily represent the views of the Association.
